When will my vehicle need to be tested?
If you buy your vehicle from new, then you will not have to get an MOT test done for three years. Once your vehicle is three years old it will need to have a MOT test every year.
If you are bringing a taxi in to get its MOT test certificate, please let us know when you book your vehicle in. Commercial vehicles, including taxis, have different MOT standards.
Why does my vehicle need a MOT Certificate?
When driving your vehicle on public roads its needs to be safe and road worthy. It needs to be checked to make sure your vehicle is safe for you to drive, as well as those other drivers around you. If it is not checked and there is a fault, your vehicle could be the result of a serious accident. Plus, it needs to meet environmental standards, such as exhaust emissions have to be of a certain level.
Although, your vehicle will be checked for roadworthiness, it doesn’t check for all mechanical errors. To ensure your vehicle meets all the safety requirements it will need to be serviced regularly, too.
The Actual MOT Test
It will take around 45 to 60 minutes to Mot Inspection Manchester your vehicle. If you are in a hurry to get it back, you may stay in the waiting area ready to receive information that is found about your vehicle’s condition. The important areas that are checked whilst doing a MOT check are the brakes, tyres and the condition of the exhaust. If your vehicle fails to pass the MOT initially, our staff will inform you of what needs to be done to rectify the faults. Obviously, if it is only a small job that needs to be fixed, you are welcome to remain in the waiting area until your vehicle has passed its MOT test. A re-test is usually free of charge.
